Now a little bit about the history of ceiling domes. A typical decorative ceiling dome is generally half of a spherical structure. They are normally round or elliptical in shape and often come in a variety of sizes to fit virtually any ceiling. Most ceiling domes extend up and into the ceiling by means of a concave interior, however, there are those that protrude away from a ceilings surface as well. The unique curvature of a dome has long been known to be one of the strongest and most structurally sound shapes known to man. Any load or force exerted on a ceiling dome is evenly displaced around its entire perimeter. Unlike typical flat ceilings, which require beams or joists every 12” or 16” for support, a fiberglass-ceiling dome is in and of itself structurally sound provided there is adequate perimeter bracing where the dome is attached. The ceiling domes own inherent shape provides all the bracing that is needed for spanning wide distances.
Ceiling domes not only come in a variety of widths, but can also be found in varying depths. Some domes are rather shallow or saucer like and others are deep and extend further into the ceiling or attic space. Which model to use would be dependent upon the space available and whether you’re looking for something traditional or simple in appearance. No matter what you choose, a ceiling dome is sure to add depth, character and style to any room. FOR ASSISTANCE CALL 800-784-6478 ------------- DEALER INQUIRIES WELCOME |
